 The proximity of the vacation house “At Tanevs’” to the railway station in the town of Platchkovtsy, presents a perfect opportunity for visiting the Orthodox Dryanovo Monastery. After a short trip via train along the beautiful valleys of the “Stara Planina” mountain, the valley of the Dryanovo monastery is reached. In that same valley the “Bacho Kiro” cave (which is open for visitors) is located and also an authentic eco-path. |

“…The monastery is located in the beautiful valley of the “Dryanovska” river, in which high overhanging limestone cliffs encircle the scenery as if the walls of an ancient keep. Hi above the monastery, among the vertical walls, lies the entrance to the “Bacho Kiro” cave, which, according to historians had been populated by prehistoric men.” |
“… The monastery had been a fortress and a place to hide for the Bulgarian patriots during the struggle for liberation, and was visited on several occasions by Father Mathew Preobrazhensky (Mitkaloto) as well as in 1871 even by our national hero – Vassil Levsky. In 1876, during the April Uprising it was a base for the band of Father Chariton and Bacho Kiro. After nine days of continuous fighting against the overwhelming numbers of the Turkish regular army, the band has been destroyed, and the monastery has been burned down and raised to the ground. In 1880 the restoring of the monastery began and a new church was built.” |

who was also known during the struggles for the autonomy of our church as Archbishop Josef Sokolski. He had come here from the Trojan monastery together with the monk Agapy in 1833. They built a small wooden church next to the entrance of the nearby cave. It was subsequently razed and in its place the much bigger temple was built, using funds and help from the villagers of the nearby villages Etara, Nova Machala etc.” |

| Tryavna – "Slaveikov's House" |
“…Petko Rachev Slavejkov - the famous Bulgarian poet has lived in this old-style Bulgarian house for 23 years. It is also the birthplace of his son - Pencho Slaveikov, who is considered by many to be one of the most notorious names in the Bulgarian literature.
The house still keeps its original 19 century spirit, and is now transformed into a museum. |

“… The “Daskalovi’s house” (1804-1808) is now a one of a kind museum of the Tryavna’s woodcarving art. It is here, where in the old the famous bet among the two great masters of the craft – Dimitar Oshanina and Ivan Bochuckovetsa took place. The result of this bet can now be seen in form of two beautifully carved wooden suns, fixed on the ceilings of the master bedrooms. Other than those two there are many other pieces of local art exhibited it the museum, making it a must-see for all the tourists visiting Tryavna.” |
